I've been a donor and volunteer of the United Way of King County & Snohomish County, Filipino Community of Seattle, Filipino American National Historical Society, FASA sa UW, Clean Water Foundation of Washington, Seattle Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Miagao, The Washington Bus, Big Brothers of Puget Sound, and The Northwest Chamber Orchestra.
Opportunity
Do something different and memorable for the AT&T/United Way annual fundraising event to engage and inspire employees.
Approach
I suggested we host an agency fair consisting of 10 local agencies throughout the week. We also had food trucks and a free espresso stand donated by vendors. Over the course of the week, hundreds of AT&T employees were exposed to United Way and all the agency's great work in our local community.
Opportunity:
Amazon has a surplus of props and samples used in marketing and product demos that cannot be resold on Amazon.
Approach:
I hosted a sample and prop sale facilitated by my friends at United Way. We raised $7600 and all proceeds from the sale went to the “Out of the Rain” homeless program, providing shelter for the homeless in King County. In 2016, there were approximately 4,000 homeless every night, living in the streets of Seattle.
Leon and I met at a club in Bellevue in 2018. Little did I know, Leon was about to be recognized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for providing a clean water solution in 30 countries around the world. Myself, Jeff Peterson and Jayson Ramos, all former AT&T leaders, decided to help Leon with his mission.
It was Jeff Peterson's birthday and he wanted to hold a concert in Ballard, to raise money and donate to Water.org and the Clean Water Foundation. Our first concert in 2017 was in Ballard, and our next and largest, sold-out concert in 2019, featuring aerial artists, break-dancers, and a fashion show was at the Triple Door in downtown Seattle.
The first school that received a donated water filter was the Guibongan Igtuba elementary school in the province of Miagao with a student population of about 400, serving 3 barangays. Through additional merchandise fundraising by The High Children, we sent 15 more clean water units to the Philippines. I worked with Seattle's International District Rotary Club to get the units to the Philippines, then the Rotary Club of Iloilo to distribute and manage installation of the units.
I provided free design and creative consultation, as well as sought-out photographers, and printers willing to donate their time, services and resources to produce these brochures. Photography was provided by Alan Abramowitz and Phil Borges. Printing provided by Rob Knowles Jr. and Forward Press.
